Some people are ordained for greatness…
Those people usually have a lot of drama in their life. Drama I happily do without. I live in a forgotten corner of nowhere for a reason: there is safety in anonymity. I have enough problems just trying to get by.
But when Kieran, a sinfully sexy demigod at the pinnacle of power, crashes into my life, suddenly my whole world is turned upside down.
He’s harboring a deadly secret, one that could destroy all he holds dear. He thinks I’m the key to his salvation, and he wants me to help him claim vengeance.
He also wants me with a passion that burns my body from the inside out.
To ignore him is impossible, but to give in to my desires, even for a night, would thrust me into danger I might not survive. Can I resist the temptation?

I found this on Amazon as a recommendation when I purchased another book. I remember reading the blurb and thinking it sounded awesome. Somehow I’d convinced myself that this was also a reverse harem – it’s not – but it is still sinfully good.
I’ve lucked out quite well this year with my ability to pick up good book series. This book is actually the first in a series of 7! So if they are half as good as this one is, I’m in good hands.
This book follows two point of views: Alexis and Kieran.
Alexis is our MC female – a character who has seen and lived the hardships of life. A woman who scraps and scrapes together anything and everything to care for her two charges. She is very feisty. She is opinionated, compassionate, caring, and far smarter than the world gives her credit for.
She lives between the cracks of the magical and mundane world. Content to be a passing shadow in the night. Of her two wards, Mordecai is a shifter who is very ill and Daisy is a mundane, rescued from the foster system. The two wards are very different from each other but what is clear is the love and respect they have for the woman caring for them.
Kieran is, though first presented as a strange stalker by Alexis, far more complex than first viewing. He comes from power and prestige but as we all know, that comes at a steep price. He has the arc of breaking away from his box and shaping the world into new.
The pairing of Alexis and Kieran is in its infancy within this book. There is so much to sink our teeth into as the reader. The world is rich and full. The characters are full of detail and description. The book moves steadily but has the art of making it feel like a roller-coaster.
If you haven’t gathered already, this book is a supernatural, magical book. It artfully weaves the former aspects with the mundane. The principle is that the supernatural/magical world revealed itself to the mundane/humans a century ago and they have been living somewhat cohesively since.
Both have their own governments and laws to abide by and Alexis and her wards are trying to exist between the two.
This book essentially follows the plot of Kieran stalking Alexis and the reader learning what power Alexis has and how she can help Kieran. Of course, that’s a simplified explanation, the book is far more than that.
The book twists the hot and heavy attraction between the two characters and the raw realism of the world around them and artfully creates a world that both emphasises the journey they’re on but still leaves a little mystery and suspicion in tack.
The book is 439pgs long, so easy to read in an afternoon or over a couple of days if you enjoy a slower read. The chapters are cohesively written and the flow of the writing is continuous. I felt that I got a good sense of both Alexis and Kieran but I can still see that there is room for improvement and character development.
Knowing how this book ended and how it set the characters up for the series, it will be interesting to see how they work cohesively and also what road the plot goes down. I think at this point, I can see many roads that the series can take, so it’ll be interesting to see whether I can anticipate what road is taken or whether it comes as a complete surprise.
I give this book: ✨✨✨✨✨
