📖9📖Academy of the Forsaken (Cursed Studies Book 2) by Eva Chase

When I arrived at Roseborne College searching for my foster brother, I had no idea what I was in for. In the past few weeks, I’ve endured torments both physical and emotional. I’ve looked death in the face. And I’ve made an unnerving discovery that’s left me scrambling to pick up the pieces of the quest I started out on.

But the supernatural beings who run this school haven’t conquered me yet. I’ll turn the tables on them with my newfound knowledge—and maybe with the help of three temptingly screwed-up guys I never expected to count on.

At least, that’s the plan. Everyone in this place is keeping secrets: me, the guys I might be falling for, and my brother. Secrets big enough to bring us together… or to tear us completely apart. How will I find the strength to continue the fight if it turns out I can’t trust anyone—not even myself?

So, February has been a cluster fuck of stress, anxiety, and basically just a bucketload of negative emotions. Reading has been the last thing on my mind and through everything that has happened this month, I was disappointed that it had stopped me from enjoying the reading experience.

Things are more settled now, they aren’t perfect but I’m moved past the ‘merely surviving’ phase. It opened my heart back to the prospect of reading and so I thought I’d continue with this trilogy.

You know the icks I had with the first book. Those icks were still present in this book but luckily our MC Trix had the piece of mind to eventually see through the bullshit and realise what manipulations she had been suffering under.

At the beginning of this book we are at a reset, Trix is back at the beginning of the cycle but this time with a secret weapon – her memories intact.

Trix’s mood swings reminded me a lot of what I was going through this month. I could relate to her shifting moods on a more personal level which I think allowed me to consume her character more thoroughly.

Jenson, Ryo, and Elias must have had whiplash from all of Trix’s shifting moods, but they dealt with it in their stride.

Ryo learned that he could use his want of being helpful to Trix with other people.

Jenson learned he could be himself around Trix and could stand his ground against the evil teachers.

Elias, he understood Trix’s conflict of interest. Though she would argue that none of her guys knew her well enough, Elias was able to see what was troubling her and help her to a conclusion that will only strengthen the quartet.

I don’t like Cade. I didn’t like him in the first book. I don’t like him now. He sucks all life out of Trix while making her feel valued by him and it is all so fake and narcissistic. I know logically that everyone in the school is there for incredibly bad actions and reasons but I wouldn’t be disappointed if Cade died a horrible and violent death.

I think, with all the emotions floating around and Trix’s changing attitudes towards her men, that the ending came too quickly. There wasn’t enough of a transition or time between the clarity between her and her men and the ending of his second book.

I did learn more in this book, quite a few of the questions I had from book 1 were given in this book but there is still about 40% of mystery left that I am dying to uncover.
