Previously I had been reading and posting Harry Potter fan fiction on another site but it was a site with a lot of restrictions and rules and ultimately it diminished my enjoyment.
I read as many fan fictions as I do books and discovering Harry Potter fan fiction was definitely something that changed my view on the books and opened me up to a wealth of original stories of beloved characters.
I’ll often read a story on fan fiction that I wish was real canon.
For those of you that are interested in fanfiction, here is a list of ones I loved and read in 2014 and indeed have read many times since. I hope you enjoy.
The Heir of the Founders by The Cold Turkey
This story has 32 chapters and a word count of 134,535.
Harry receives a letter regarding his inheritance after Sirius’ death, changing the course of history for everyone in the wizarding world. (Powerful!Harry, Manipulative! Dumbledore. HHR)
Authors Note – Slightly different from my more conventional (read, more canon-esque stories in terms of in-character actions.) AU set after 5th year. Harry find that those whom have guided his life may not have had the best intentions. Likely H/Hr shipper, though there won’t be much (if any) Weasley bashing. My Real Parents by redfrog
This story has 17 chapters and a word count of 73,613
AU to HBP, Hermione finds out that she is not the Granger’s daughter. We find out there is more to the Slytherins than we thought and not all Gryffindors are good. This is a SSHG fic with some other potential parings. Some Dumbledore and Weasley bashing.
Authors Note: I am trying a new angle with this story that I have never tried to write before. This is a Gryffindor/Slytherin pairing story that will show corruption in those we believe to be good and compassion in those we believe to be evil. The main pairing is going to be Snape/Hermione with Hermione being the ‘main’ character. There will be some Ron and Dumbledore bashing and the Slytherins will be completely out of character. Overall I think it will be a fun new story but maybe not for everyone’s tastes.

Authors Note: I know a lot of people have written Tom Riddle/Hermione stories, especially ones concerning time travel of some sort. I will admit that the basic plotline here is not that creative…but I will attempt to make this more interesting than some of those that I have read. Maybe a few more evil twist or indepth personality assessments of Tom.

Delenda Est by Lord Silvere

Harry is a prisoner, and Bellatrix has fallen from grace. The accidental activation of Bella’s treasured heirloom results in another chance for Harry. It also gives him the opportunity to make the acquaintance of the young and enigmatic Bellatrix Black as they change the course of history.
Author’s Note: We decided to stick together after Earl so that we could try our hand at another Harry/Bellatrix story. This is the product of some really long chats on the instant messenger. We’re out to break some cliches and provide you with a first rate H/B story; hopefully that happens. There’s only a slight catch-this doesn’t rant as top priority for either of us, so updates won’t be as quick or regular as any of us would prefer.
As for the setting of the story, we’re operating under the idea that books six and seven didn’t quite turn out as they did in the cannon. Most notably, they never figured out the horcruxes. Harry and the gang graduated and wandered off into the world to help the Order to fight Voldemort. We admit that the beginning may have some shades of Earl, but it will quickly wander into other paths.
