đź“–32đź“– Eclipsed Empire (The Wolves of Crescent Creek Book 2) By Tessa Hale

One secret tore my life apart. It sent me running from the place I thought I would be safe, right into the path of untold enemies.

But when my life is in danger, the wolves I thought I’d lost for good are the ones who come for me. And they’ll burn down the world to keep me safe—even if none of us trusts each other anymore.
With every moment we’re forced together, every whispered apology and stolen touch, my resolve to keep them at a distance weakens. And when I realize just how much each of these men has come to mean to me, that resolve crumbles to dust.

Only there are more secrets to uncover—all our pasts lurking in the shadows. And when the monsters emerge from the darkness, there’s no escaping them this time…

Dare I say it, I’m on a roll! Three books in one day! Haven’t read this much in a long time. It’s a godawful day, the weather has been wet, close, muggy with thunder and lightning. Unpleasant to say the least but good reading weather.

This is the second book in the series, I think this is a trilogy but I’m not certain.

Wren did not find herself in a good place at the beginning of this book and honestly it takes the balls of a fictional character to survive the way she did. I know humans can do some miraculous things but Wren would have died ages ago in the real world.

She got the lottery in being mated to wolves who were as trauma ridden and as fucked up as she is, that’s for sure.

Kingston takes more of a back seat in this book but honestly, it’s his own fault. He does start to make it up though, with sweet gesture and timed moments but he never gives more than Wren can handle.

Brix is a brutal, possessive, violent character but he does something for Wren which makes her soul sing and between them they heal parts of themselves, so I can’t really be mad at him. He has proven time and time again that he will lay down his life to save hers and Wren needs someone like that in her life, she needs to feel that she isn’t alone.

Puck has reality kicked into him and he realises that Wren is his home and his home is something he needs to keep alive. He is still charming, sarcastic, and fun but there is a level of seriousness to him. He shouldn’t be underestimated and his bond to his pack brothers is almost as tightly wound as his bond to Wren. He can even be the voice of reason amid the bubbling testosterone of 5 alphas.

Locke is still as sweet as ever but we see more of an alpha voice coming from him in this book. I would still say he is Wren’s rock but their relationship has evolved and deepened. He needed someone like Wren to open him up to the world and she needed the safety and the friendship he willingly gave her. He has always been in her corner and it is a bond that she cherishes.

Ender is still an arse. He’s an arse with a stick. That stick may be coming loose but it’s still up there. He gives no shits and he takes no prisoners. While his fuck attitude can be a blessing at times, he is not willing to give into the bond with Wren and she goes from hurt to resigned over and over again in this book. I understand the pull between characters but he really needs to sort his shit out.

I enjoyed the little friendship group that Wren has carved out for herself. Dina from the bar. Clyde and Franco at the gym. It’s a good combination. One weird thing in this book, there was one line where it was mentioned that Wren had been in Crescent Creek for 3 years and I found that odd and offputting considering in the first book she’d only been there a few months.

Remember how I said in my last review that I hoped to never have to meet Wren’s father…

HE’S HERE

AND I HATE HIM

As any good reader would. He wasn’t created to be liked. He was created to be the evil villain all the other characters rally against. He is gross, though and should never have been allowed to breed with Wren’s mother to begin with. There are many ways to be a terrible parent, I wish his terrible parenting ways were just a figment of imagination but I know the kind of world that we live in and I’m sure there is someone out there doing something along the same lines.

I knew he would try and get Wren back. It’s an essential part of the plot and needs to be resolved, not just for Wren’s benefit but for the benefit of her 5 mates who have all suffered under the hands of her father. I just wasn’t quite expecting the way it happened. I had theories, they were just incorrect.

If this is indeed a trilogy, it will be interesting to see how things end!
