📖34📖 A Blackened Bond (The Blackened Blade Series Book 2) by Isla Davon

Death once claimed me, stole the air from my lungs as I burned alive…only I didn’t stay dead.

Instead I was returned to my past, and back to a living hell.

The Academy.

Where those who I believed were friends were actually foes. My enemies thought they could break me, but I proved them wrong.

Two months ago I was given a second chance…A second life.

With it I now wanted answers…and revenge.

But something went wrong.

Chaos is happening all around me. Moments in time that never happened before; new people, strange marks, mutated monsters, and a power growing inside me that I have yet to fully understand.

I’ve caused events to alter with my presence…so it’s time I followed suit.
With the bond’s I’ve created in this new life I’ll find the answers I want and reclaim what’s mine.

And that’s another book read. Man, I’m really flying through the books recently. Not sure what spurred this little book-reading cycle, but I’ll go with it as long as I can. It’s good not to feel guilty for being in a book slump. Although with the amount of Kindle books I’ve been reading, I can tell the paperbacks and hardbacks on my TBR are getting a little jealous.

This was a fabulous read. I got some answers and gained more questions.

I’ll try and break it down again.

  1. Seria – I knew she was a dodgy bitch, and I was right! – I just don’t know what her plan will be for this strong, badass version of Micai.
  2. Gadriel – still unknown. Still teaches Micai defence, and it is clear he feels something for her, but he hasn’t opened up or been explored fully by the author, so time will tell.
  3. Micai – has grown stronger. Gains more power. Become more resilient, badass, and all-around a person who takes no shit from anyone (I love it).
  4. Ezra – Ooft! I had a suspicion, and it turned out to be true! Unfortunately, there is no time in this book for it to be explored, so I’m sure it is something that will be included in book 3. Ezra has finally admitted who Micai is to his brothers – but not to her yet.
  5. Annex – gave me a bloody big heart attack at the end of the first book, but I’m pleased to report that he is alive and kicking in this book. I enjoy his unhinged persona, his sarcasm, and the joy he gains in being unapologetically himself.
  6. Mal – is a sneaky one. He just crept up without me realising it. There are a few chapters from his pov which give good insight into his character. I thought he would need more convincing with Micai, but he has accepted the turn of events quite well.
  7. Creed – is an idiot. He’s a dick, twatfaced man child. BUT he does almost, finally, come to his senses towards the end of the book. Again, there is no time to explore it here, and I’m sure it will be featured in the next book.
  8. The Council – here was something I wasn’t quite expecting, and I’m not sure if I should have expected it. Due to events at the end of the first book, The Council bring in a team of ‘trackers’ to investigate, and they seem both dimwitted and slimy throughout the narrative. Through the Infernal Four, as the reader, you learn a little bit about the outside world and how it functions and how ineffective The Council currently is. It will be interesting to see what wider role – if any – they take in further books.

So, yes, a lot of things are going on in this book. Micai does handle herself very well. Despite the stereotypical nature of a female MC with trauma, she does handle herself more uniquely, and her development from the beginning to where she is now does show an intent to evolve. I think she has chosen the best route available to her. It’s not the easiest route, but I think, knowing what she knows, it’s the route that will give her the most answers.

That’s what is at the heart of Micai and the Infernal Four – the need for answers.

As the reader, I have so many questions, so I guess we will both be looking for the answers in the next book – which isn’t out till the end of September, so I will have to patiently wait until then.
