If you’re new, or you’ve forgotten, I’m Hannah. I post reviews of all the books I read throughout the year on this blog. I also post on IG under the same name. I also post on GoodReads.
I’m late in posting this as I thought I’d have at least read a book by now, but I seem to have fallen short. The usual excuses: life, work, health. My 2025 was rocky but fortunately most of the bad stuff happened in the first six months, leaving the latter six months to be greatly enjoyed.
Reading-wise, I completed my goal and then some. I recently had a clear-out of books, I took a full bag to the charity shop and gave some away to friends. It has vastly reduced the amount of books I have staring at me from the TBR pile. Let’s be clear, the majority of the TBR pile are books in series that I adore, I have just not been in the first headspace to read them. There are maybe only a handful of books that are standalone impulse buys.
My reading tastes have changed over the last two years. I’ve gone from predominantly reading crime thrillers to predominantly reading reverse harems. Those series books in my TBR are mostly crime thrillers. I haven’t fallen out of love with the genre by any means, I think I just read to my limit and needed a break. I am starting to read them again, I have two on the go at the moment, I just haven’t finished them yet.
I also started an obsession with Stephen King. I read one of his short stories in 2024 and, through 2025, brought almost his entire catalogue of books…books I haven’t yet read.
I read a lot during my lunch break, which upped the amount of reverse harem books I read, because I primarily read them on Kindle.
I still read a smattering of children’s books. I enjoy the palette cleanser. I generally steer clear of young adult books as I find the tropes overly done and easily predictable. Cosy crime, favoured by my sister and mum, gives me the heeby-geebies. I can’t stand it.
I always value character development over all else. I love a good bit of world-building. I cannot stand stereotypes. When I read spicy books, there has to be an equal balance of character development vs. smut. Overly descriptive books make me want to bang my head against the wall. I listen to classics on audiobook instead of reading them. When someone acts outrageously at my admission of not reading a book, it makes me want to punch something. Viral books are overrated. My opinions are not yours, we are all different, we read books differently, we react to them differently.
I review based on character, world-building, plot structure/development, how realistic/relatable the characters & plot are, and sometimes I just unhingly write reviews with no direction. My reviews are usually between 700 and 1200 words, but it differs depending on how much I want to talk about.
If you’d like me to post what books I have in my TBR, let me know, otherwise I’ll spare you the trauma! 😉
