I have always loved watching Poirot and Miss Marple on the television. I knew of Agatha Christie and the books she wrote but I never entertained reading them when I was younger. The BBC’s production of the ‘ABC Murder’s’, offered me such a different view of Poirot that it gave me leave to want to read the books. I think I’d become so accustomed to David Suchet’s Poirot that I couldn’t see the character as anything else, but seeing John Malkovich playing Poirot in the BBC adaptation reminded me that we all read with a different vision in mind and that reading Agatha Christie’s Poirot may leave me with David Suchet’s Poirot but may also leave me with a fabricated Poirot of my own. It seems a silly reason to avoid reading a series but sometimes the silliest reason to others becomes an important reason to me.
I have no date as to when I will read Agatha Christie, probably not this year but maybe next year – I’m not entirely sure. I just know that I want to read the whole series, novellas and short-stories included. I have come to love Poirot so much that I want to see the Poirot that was written rather than the Poirot I have watched.
I’ve tried something new in this post, creating a fun way to show off the book synopsis’s.
