135. Explorers on Black Ice Ridge by Alex Bell

Ice princess Stella Starflake and her father Felix are in trouble: President Fogg has expelled them from the Polar Bear Explorers’ Club, and banned them from going on any further expeditions.

Stella’s not going to be put off by rules and regulations though. She knows her friend Shay is in danger of turning into a witch wolf himself, since receiving a deadly bite on their last adventure. It’s vital that Stella and her friends set out to find the spellbook that could save his life, even if it means travelling over the cursed Black Ice Bridge.

Paperback – 384 pages

Publisher: Faber and Faber (November 7th 2019)

I was so excited to dive back into Stella’s world and the adventure to be had in this book was as creative and wonderful as its predecessors.

It was easy to read this as I already know the characters and I had no problem in understanding what was happening. It only took a couple of hours to read.

Each book leaves me surprised at the journey and the changes to the characters. Stella grows in leaps and bounds as the series progresses and in this book I felt that she was more confident in herself and less fearful of her powers or worried about her future. Ethan was more irritating in this book but still proved that he was capable of acts of kindness. Shay stayed in the background more, the changes happening to him and Koa made him more reserved and a quieter version of himself. Beanie has grown more confident and sure of himself over the series and I thought he showed great bravery here.

This was easy to visualise as I really only needed to create the new settings and characters. Stella, Ethan, Shay, Beanie, Felix and Joss are already clear in my mind and helped to pull everything closer.

I thought the direction of this book was interesting and it showed that there is still al one way for the series to go with many adventures to be had.

This was fab! Perfect Sunday afternoon reading. I was occupied with the story and captivated from the beginning to end. I see the characters grow as the series continues and they grow in a way that is very believable and full of charm. It is exciting to read as the story unfolds and to discover how the story will continue.
